Hi — we’re Erica and Jeff.

We’re the couple behind This Might Be a Bad Idea, a podcast (and soon, a book) about bold moves, imperfect timing, questionable decisions, and building a life that finally fits—even if it looks nothing like what you were “supposed” to do.

When we told people we were moving to Mexico, most of them tilted their heads and asked, “Are you sure?”

We weren’t. Not even a little.
But we did it anyway.

And that pretty much sums up our approach to life.

What the Podcast Is About

This show is our way of pulling back the curtain on what it’s really like to start over—together—in another country, in the middle of life, without a clear roadmap.

We talk about:

  • Downsizing from three bedrooms to six suitcases

  • The reality of running businesses remotely

  • Failing forward through geckos, water tanks, culture shock, and Costco meltdowns

  • Why we chose this path—and why we’re staying

It’s not a travel podcast. It’s a real-life podcast about the chaos and courage it takes to live on your own terms.

What You’ll Hear

We promise:

  • Honest stories

  • Hard-won lessons

  • Plenty of laughs

  • And a gentle reminder that you’re not the only one asking, “Is this really what I want my life to look like?”

Because sometimes the answer comes after a few bad ideas.

About Erica

Erica is the brains, the systems, and the spreadsheets behind the operation. She’s a full-time COO, a nonprofit founder, and the one who first whispered, “What if we just… left?”

She’s writing the book about this entire chapter—because someone had to document the chaos, and she already had a Google Doc open.

About Jeff

Jeff is the comic relief, the calm in the storm, and the guy who agreed to move to a new country without speaking Spanish—or sweating the details. He’s here to challenge the plan, stir the pot, and remind Erica when to take a breath.
